ORIGINS

Named for the giant Palladian windows at its first address, Jay Susanin’s PALLADIO has always been rooted in the custom framing and interior design industries.  PALLADIO opened in 2001 and has earned a reputation as one of the region’s top custom framing companies with a growing presence in the art production and interior design arenas.

Because of his background in history, business, architecture, historic preservation and interiors, Jay’s residential and corporate clients have access to a unique combination of talents.

The underpinning of PALLADIO’s success Jay’s understanding of appropriate artwork and the perfect frames - which he believes are the binding agent to every interior space. Artwork is the single element in any space where human personality, individual style and life experiences can come to life. Jay’s uncanny talent for selecting artwork, the frames and placement of work helps to make his clients’, his designers’ or his own projects that much better.

As Palladio approaches it’s 23rd anniversary, Jay has established a superior custom framing practice & client base & has successfully diversified the custom art production wing of his business with the creation of Bank & Surf [see below.] In addition, Jay frequently partners with Ian Campbell Photography to provide corporate clients with unique artwork that is clever, expressive and redefines visual corporate branding. Combined, the different facets of Jay’s work at PALLADIO give his clients a full range of talents enabling him to create interior spaces that are unique, personal and beautiful.

BANK & SURF... bank of a river and surf of the ocean. And so was Jay Susanin’s new art production company named -- a company that was “created by accident.”

“ I was creating an art plan for a client’s beach house in Naples, Florida and wanted the focal point of the family room to be a great map of Old Naples. Not being able to find what I wanted in Florida, I came home and drew what I had in my mind.  The drawing was digitized & enhanced to have the feel of a blueprint and produced in turquoise.  It was framed at PALLADIO and another customer saw it and wanted a navy blue version for his own house -- plus a companion map of Avalon, NJ . Using an old map of Avalon  I repeated the process.  Someone else saw the map of Avalon and asked for Stone Harbor and another for Ocean City....”  and so was born the coastal art division of PALLADIO.

After two immediate appearances at the Atlanta Gift Show, the beach maps of BANK & SURF made their way to almost 50 stores between Maine and Florida.  Responding initially to the wants of the first year’s customers and store accounts, the map library began to grow.  To date, there are almost 650 map locations and the collection keeps growing.

BANK & SURF maps, typically printed in navy blue, can be personalized to show the location and address of a house, have an initial or monogram in the center of the compass, and the year of the house tucked under the map’s crest; additional points of interest can be added to the map such as a private club, a wedding venue or favorite hangout.  New map collections include city maps, map for private clubs and maps of summer camps.

Several related art collections are in the development stages at BANK & SURF and will include sea creatures, sea corals & seaweeds, tropical leaves, NJ beach tags and more....

Interiors

Tucked into the corner of the Interior Design industry is the treatment of walls - and it is here that JD Susanin and PALLADIO have flourished.  Called to task for creating residential, corporate and institutional Art Plans, Jay has had the opportunity to design, produce and frame entire art collections and carry the Plan through to space planning, furniture selection, color consulting and accessories. These projects include private clubs, halls of history for college & universities, restaurants, corporate headquarters, historical societies and unique home offices. Jay works routinely with local photographer Ian Campbell who, from the other side of the lens, brings his ideas to life with unmatchable creativity and imagination.  Whether for a one room mini museum, a beach house or corporate headquarters, Jay carries forth the same formula of what is unique and rare with a frequent nod to history - to create individual style and branding.
